With some good weather I have taken the opportunity of fitting the side rocker trim. When I first test fitted these a couple of years ago, before the body was painted, I found that the rubber backing strip was too tall for the metal trim and my intention was not to install them – which some people choose not to do out of taste anyway.
However, having seen how the rear bumper trim looks on my car and also having seen a Chesil car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, I decided to make the rubber trim work. My rationale is that without the rubber strip you do tend to find the odd place where the metal trim does not quite sit right against the body.
My solution was to cut the backing rubber strip into thirds (horizontally) and install the outer two thirds into the top and bottom of the rocker trim as I tighten the bolts. This worked very well and you would never know how it was installed now it is all together and I think it looks much smarter with the rubber strip on. I now need to take the rear bumper off and fit the rubber trim on that too.
