Chassis preparation

The chassis is looking in pretty good condition, but there is some surface rust on areas that have been worked on. First job is to remove the original beetle seat mounts which will not be used in the final car, then grinding and sanding down any surface rust, before paint.

You can see the changes made the chassis to convert the original swing-axel to IRS (independent rear suspension) in the left hand image.

The paint process that I’ve chosen is a two part Epoxy based solution from U-Pol called Raptor

It will take two to three coats of primer (middle picture) and then two to three coats of raptor protector (right hand image).

Now that it is early December, it is getting a little bit cold, so have a couple of small electric heaters on the go to keep the temperature above 5 degrees to ensure good paint curing.
