With the body off again, it was time to finish off the parking break setup.
All throughout this project, we have tried to make the engineering as close as possible to an original Speedster and to this end, we have also re-engineered the parking brake on the Beetle chassis to operate with a handle break, just as the original 356’s did.
We have taken an original parking brake lever mechanism from a 356 and extended the length of it, so the cable goes through the central tunnel.
The mechanism can be seen in the photo above and is comprised of the S-Shaped level on right hand side of beam along with the horizontal tube (attached to beam through two fabricated brackets and bearings) and then the cable is connected using a clutch butterfly nut.
