As discussed in a previous post, we have an original steering column setup from a 1950’s Beetle, which shares the same design as used on the original Speedsters.
It took countless hours and many pounds in the swear jar, to get the geometry right. The photo on the right was an early one and you can see that the steering column is not 90 degrees to the rest of the car, so cutting and fabrication was required.
To give further strength and aid the steering column tube (ivory colour in photo) we have also fabricated a support that connects from the firewall to the reinforced bar under the dash.
I will try and get a photo at a later stage of this support structure, but it should give a much more solid and safer mounting point that you would get on standard replica cars.
